FrontBack Syndrome

The effects of student’s placement in the classroom on achievement

Introduction

Statement of the Problem

"In common general education classrooms there is always a student seat preference which commonly carries over into the dance classroom.  There are students that constantly keep to the front or the back of the room in any given dance class.  I have coined the terms “front of the room stunners” and “back of the room lagers” to better explain the negative connotations associated with each space in the room.  It is assumed by teachers as well as students alike that the students that stand in the front of the classroom will learn more as well as want to learn more and those that keep towards the back learn less and lack the ability to learn.  My research aims to decipher if there is there is really a correlation between seat preference and placement on learning, achievement, and motivation and in turn self-esteem in the classroom..."
